DIY Racerback Tank Top

Just the other day I saw the COOLEST idea for making a racerback tank top out of an old t-shirt on Blogilates. I am in desperate need of workout gear these days, and lucky me my little sister just gave me a bunch of her old t-shirts! So here is my first (definitely not my last) attempt at it!

Step One: Lay the t-shirt flat and evenly on the floor

Step Two: Cut off the sleeves, a one inch strip around the bottom, and the neckline

Step Three: Turn the shirt over and cut more off the sleeve area (only on the back side – to make the fabric in the back more narrow) and a deep V at the neckline

Step Four: Cut the strip from the bottom so that it is not longer a loop. Tie it around the fabric on the back of the shirt and wrap the strips round and round to make your racerback. Tie in another knot, cut off and tuck in the loose ends.

Step Five: Trim your edges and stretch it a bit to curl the edges. You may want to adjust your neckline in the front a bit too.

  1. Fun! This looks super easy!! I think I could do this!! I’ll try it, it’ll be nice to have in the summer. Hoping it doesn’t get so hot, but last summer was HOT! A shirt like this would help stay cool! Thanks for sharing!! :)
