Oh my goodness, aren’t these THE MOST adorable little things you have ever seen? And would you believe me if I told you that my baby girls made them!?! Well it’s true! Meet The Beansters, ours are named Patches and Sparkles. The Beansters are learn-to-sew crafts for kids (recommended for ages 7 and up) and are available at the Etsy shop Jessica’s Loft. Fina and Kitty-boo were so excited to pick out the Pirate and Mermaid kits because they wanted them to marry each other! Crazy girls.
After placing our order our kits were delivered promptly. When we opened the package the girls were delighted to find two little silk screened cotton drawstring bags with everything inside that we needed to get sewing! We of course had to open them right away and “ooh” and “ahh” over all of the colorful pieces. I was pleasantly surprised to find that each kit truly did contain EVERYTHING we needed to make the craft as it was pictured. So many times we purchase gifts for our children only to find out that we needed a bunch of extra “stuff” to make it work, frustrating! I was even more pleased that the instructions were clear and EASY to follow. I personally do not know how to sew and I did not have any problems figuring it out!
Jessica had given me heads up that the kits might be a little advanced for my 6 and 4 year old, so I decided to work on only one kit at a time so that I would be available to help each girl as they needed it. To my surprise, Fina (6) needed almost no help! I helped her cut out some of the smaller accessories, but after a little instruction on how to sew, she went right to work! She never once got frustrated and I heard her say things like, “I’m doing it Mom!” and “This is so fun!” It took us about an hour to complete the craft from start to finish and we had a blast. After several weeks of working on school work in the evenings it was really nice to be able to sit down and do something fun together! I think that she really enjoyed watching the whole thing come together from just pieces of felt and string, to a dazzling finished product!
Kitty-boo (4) needed a lot more help, I actually did all of the cutting before we sat down to sew. She had fun sticking the needle through and then walking backwards with the needle in hand until it was tight. Even though it took us a long time to complete, I was proud of her ability to stay focused and determined. She was so pleased with the results!
If you are looking for a unique gift for your little one for Valentine’s Day, I would suggest purchasing a Beanster or two from Jessica! Be sure to stop by The Beansters website to check them all out! It is a great way to spend some special time bonding with your little Valentine, and you are also giving them the gift of self-confidence. All sew kits are eco-friendly, so you can feel good about gifting them. The Beansters are also a great idea for birthday party activities, birthday and holiday gifts, or just to say “I love you!”
Jessica has generously offered a chance for my readers to win a “Choose any 3″ Beanster pack ($34.00 value) from her shop!
The Beanster giveaway is available to all legal residents of the United States who are 18 years or older.
