I am just so excited to tell you about my adventures experimenting with Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil! They were super generous and sent me a 32 ounce jar to use, and I learned that just a little bit of this stuff goes a long way! At first I wasn’t sure what to do with it – cook it or put it on my skin? Turns out you can do both, and a lot more! Just a quick search online and I was able to find lots of recipes using the coconut oil. My sister-in-law and I decided to have a mini spa day and whip up some homemade dry skin treatments since it has been so cold and dry up here this winter! Here is what we came up with:

Whipped Coconut Oil Body Butter:

BodyButter1

1 C. coconut oil

1 t. vitamin E oil

essential oil (we used about 10 drops of lemon)

BodyButter2

This was SUPER easy. We threw everything into the stand mixer with the whisk attachment and turned in on high for 6 minutes! This recipe made enough to fill two 8 ounce jars.

Coconut-Ginger Scrub:

BodyScrub1

2 T coarsely chopped ginger

1/2 C. coconut oil

1/2 C. cold pressed oil

1 1/2 C. turbinado sugar

1/2 C. kosher salt

essential oil (we used about 10 drops of eucalyptus and it was very mild)

BodyScrub2

This one is a tiny bit more work, but still very very easy. Simply heat up the coconut oil and ginger pieces in a sauce pan on low for about 10 minutes. Remove the ginger pieces and mix the cold pressed oil into the coconut oil. Let this mixture cool to room temperature before adding the sugar, salt and essential oil. Mix well and pack into jars! This recipe made enough to fill three 8 ounce jars.

After just one use of the scrub and body butter, my hands feel so much softer! I am truly amazed, and I cannot wait to use it on my feet!

For both of these recipes we used the Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil from Tropical Traditions. I found the oil to be very easy to work with. It is actually a solid material at room temperature, but melts quickly when heated. I love that it is organic and is extracted by hand (NOT mass produced). I cannot wait to cook with the coconut oil and we already have plans to make diaper rash cream and lip balm with it! More recipes to come!

Tropical Traditions has generously offered my readers a chance to win their very own jar of Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil and here is what you need to know about the company and giveaway:
